Your mediation attorney will usually meet with you before mediation and between sessions. This mainly saves you attorney fees, and often negotiations in mediation are smoother without each party having an attorney present. You may have your mediation attorney with you, yet often their assignment is to prepare and advise you when mediation is a factor in your case. If you do want your mediation attorney to be there, let the mediator know so he or she may inform the other party, in order for them to consider if they will also bring their attorney.
